Defense and aerospace technologies provider Textron Systems Corporation has unveiled a new family of autonomous maritime surface vessels, the TSUNAMI.
As disclosed, Textron Systems developed the TSUNAMI family of products with its CUSV-based autonomy control system.
Fueled by gasoline for ease of logistics, the TSUNAMI vehicle family also provides a payload capacity of 1,000 pounds/453.6 kilograms. The current 24-, 25-, and 28-foot variant hulls are in high volume production and deployable up to Sea State 4 with ranges varying between 600 nautical miles to over 1,000 nautical miles.
The new autonomous maritime surface vessels are designed to meet “the needs of the U.S. Department of Defense and its allies”.
“Textron Systems understands how to design, integrate, field and support autonomous systems across the air, land and sea domains, because we are unique in having done that,” said Senior Vice President, Air, Land and Sea Systems David Phillips .
“Combining this expertise with the capability, demonstrated capacity, and affordability of Brunswick’s commercial shipbuilding know-how allows us to provide our DoD and allied customers with powerful maritime force strength at speed and at scale.”
Textron Systems did not reveal any further details or possible contract opportunities for the new facility of USVs.
To remind, in November last year, the company received a task order valued at up to $17 million from the US Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to provide COCO unmanned aerial system (UAS) services to a US Navy ship deploying to the 6th Fleet.
