On the 77th anniversary of the Myanmar Navy, the navy has marked several milestones in the construction of new naval vessels.

As disclosed, the navy named the new frigate and commissioned two corvettes at the Naval Dockyard Command Headquarters in Thanlyin, Yangon Region. To protect the Myanmar waters, efforts are being made constantly to expand the Tatmadaw (Navy).

At a ceremony held on December 24, 2024, the frigate was named King Thalun in honor of King Thalun for combating internal enemies of the country, defending against external danger, and adopting the standards and norms for the development of the state.

The frigate is the largest vessel among other vessels built by the Myanmar Navy. It is fully facilitated with the body structures, machines, electronics, weapons, and weaponry systems. Efforts were made to develop the inner parts of the vessel to meet the international warships.

The vessel, with 135 meters in length, 14.5 meters in breadth, nine meters in height, and 4.1 meters in draft, can withstand 3,500 tons of load and can drive 30 nautical miles per hour. The construction of the frigate began in 2017.

The ship can conduct patrol and surveillance, combat invasion of terrorist organizations, and protect the water territory, as well as control the sea territorial area of the state and perform search and rescue operations for humanitarian measures.

Alongside this ceremony, two 63-meter-long anti-submarine ships built by the Tatmadaw (Navy) were commissioned into service.

“To become a naval troop with combat power, the Tatmadaw  (Navy) must have readiness of war vessels, readiness of weapons and systems and readiness of naval men and efforts must be made to be well versed in the use of weapons and weapon systems,” the Myanmar officials noted.
