Serco inks support deal for Royal Navy’s helicopters

Serco, the international services company, has been awarded a contract extension to continue to provide engineering and airfield support services to the Royal Navy for a further 12 months.

Serco was originally awarded the contract for the provision of Aircraft Engineering Support and Airfield Services contract at Royal Naval Air Stations (RNAS) Yeovilton and Culdrose following a tender process in July 2020.

This award will see Serco continue to provide the services until 31 March 2026. 

The key areas of support that Serco provides are:  

  • Operational support to the Merlin Helicopter Force at RNAS Culdrose;
  • Engineering support to the Wildcat Maritime Force at RNAS Yeovilton with support to both 825 and 815 Squadron;
  • Support to Commando Helicopter Force at RNAS Yeovilton with a team providing all Off Aircraft Engineering Support and Airfield Service Support;
  • Airfield Services Support at RNAS Culdrose, covering the airfield/flying duties 24/7 365 days a year at both sites;
  • Flying Training Support at RNAS Yeovilton, providing Qualified Helicopter Instructors and Qualified Aircrewman Instructors to the Simulators;
  • Flying Training Support at RNAS Culdrose providing Qualified Helicopter Instructors, Qualified Observer Instructors and Qualified Aircrewman Instructors to the Simulators.

    Commenting on the contract extension, Doug Umbers, Managing Director of Serco’s Defence business, said: “Our teams at RNAS Culdrose and Yeovilton make a real impact by providing critical engineering support to help keep the Royal Navy flying 365 days a year and we are delighted to have had this contract extended by a further 12 months.”
