Spanish shipbuilding company Navantia has held a keel-laying ceremony for the first F110 frigate for the Spanish Navy.
As informed, the shipbuilder held the ceremony at its shipyard in Ferol on 9 August. The construction of the ship, which is the first of the series of five new generation frigates for the Spanish Navy, began in April 2022.
The act consisted of placing block 311 in Tier 2 of the Ferrol facilities, on which the rest of the ship will rise. With this important event, Navantia continues to advance in the construction of the five frigates in this series.
It is expected that this ship will be launched in 2025, while its delivery to the Spanish Navy proceeding is scheduled for 2028. The delivery of the remaining ships will be in phases, until 2032, the date on which the Spanish Navy is expected to receive the fifth unit.
To date, 18 of the 33 blocks that will make up the new F110 are in the manufacturing process. According to the company, the construction is ahead of schedule.
The detailed engineering 3D model is approximately 80% finished, and procurement of platform equipment for all ships in the series stands at 99%.
“The F-110 program is a vital project for the Navy, which will result in the necessary replacement of the “Santa María” class frigates, while complementing the capacity of our F-100 as basic elements for the development of the rest. of the Fleet’s capabilities,” said Chief of Staff of the Navy, Antonio Piñeiro.
The F110 frigate program, ordered in 2019, outlines the construction of five units valued at EUR 4.3 billion. These ships are designed for various roles, including anti-aircraft, anti-surface, and anti-submarine capabilities, as well as collaborative operations with other ships.
