Under the Finnish Border Guard’s Vessel Ship 2025 project, the two new vessels will replace three decommissioned patrol vessels.

During the spring of 2021, the Finnish Border Guard issued a tender for the construction of the multipurpose vessels. The goal is to conclude a final shipbuilding contract by the end of this year.

Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku was selected according to pre-defined benchmarks.

Final negotiations for the delivery will take place in the fall and the shipbuilding contract is expected to be signed by the end of the year.

The importance of the new ships for Finland’s overall maritime safety will be significant, and they will have an important role for the Finnish authorities in the Baltic Sea, according to the authority.

In the future, the Border Guard’s fleet will consist of three Security-class vessels. When building ships, special attention will be paid to versatility and environmental friendliness.
