Spain hosts 18 nations for exercise Dynamic Mariner

The multi-national exercise Dynamic Mariner/ Flotex-19 (DYMR/FL19) that gathered 18 NATO allies kicked of off the coast of Spain on October 7.

Maneuvers will range from mine countermeasures, through anti-submarine, surface and anti-air warfare, and air operations to amphibious and force protection operations.

Running through October 18, the exercise brings together two submarines, 32 surface ships and 18 air assets, including maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters.

Assets and personnel come from Albania, Bulgaria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.

DYMR/FL19 is led by NATO Maritime Command and involves assets from the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) and Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2).

The exercise will also help Spain certify the Spanish Navy High Readiness Forces (Maritime) Headquarters (SPMARFOR) for participation in NATO’s Response Force (NRF).
