Launched on July 20, the vessel was named Tabasco, with hull number P-168.

The Mexican Navy noted that in comparison with its predecessors, Tabasco features improvements to its stability and seakeeping performance.

Tabasco and its sister ships are used for search and rescue, interception and monitoring missions in Mexican exclusive economic zone (EEZ) waters.

Measuring 86.00 meters in length, the 10.5-meter-wide vessels displace 1,680 tonnes and develop a speed of 20 knots. The vessels are crewed by 114 sailors and feature a helicopter and two 11 meter fast interceptor boats.

The Oaxaca-class OPVs are also capable of carrying a CB-90 fast assault craft in their well decks.
