While on deployment Shoup supported the Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI) and participated in exercise Valiant Shield 2018.

OMSI is a secretary of defense initiative aimed at diminishing transnational illegal activity on the high seas in the Pacific Island nations of Oceania’s exclusive economic zones and enhancing regional security and interoperability with partner nations.

Shoup’s crew proved their combat effectiveness during Valiant Shield 2018, demonstrating their ability to conduct joint operations with the US Air Force.

“I am extremely proud of our Sailors’ accomplishments and their commitment to victory in the mission throughout a demanding deployment,” said Cmdr. Andy Strickland, commanding officer of USS Shoup. “We are excited to rejoin our community, especially our loved ones.”
