NAVCAD contracts Insitu for more ScanEagle UAS deliveries to Afghanistan

The US Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAVCAD) has awarded Insitu Inc. a $10.8 million contract to deliver an additional 27 ScanEagle unmanned aircraft systems to Afghanistan.

In addition to the systems, the contract includes 37 payloads and spares in support of the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The July 24 award follows previous contracts, awarded to Insitu in December 2015, July 2017 and March 2018. The total value of contracts awarded so far exceeds $148 million.

Boeing subsidiary Insitu will perform work on the contract in Bingen, Washington, and is expected to complete it in December 2019.

The ScanEagle is a small UAS with a 10-foot wingspan and flight endurance of over 24 hours. With a maximum weight of 48.5 pounds with electro-optical or infrared sensor payloads, it delivers imagery on land or at sea.
