The self-propelled barge is expected to be delivered to the navy in September, after completing further outfitting and trials.

According to the Indian Navy, the 1,000 ton fuel barge has a collapsible mast, which will enable her to berth alongside the Indian Navy aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya for refueling, a feat complicated by the large overhang of the carrier’s flight deck.

The barge is 68 metres long, has a displacement of 2,000 tons and is designed to replenish warships with fuel and water in harbor and at anchorage. It is capable of speeds up to 12 knots and has an endurance of 500 nautical miles.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Admiral Pawar, Chief of Staff Eastern Naval Command, complimented the shipbuilder for launching the vessel ahead of schedule adding that he expects the barge to be delivered to the Indian Navy as scheduled.
