Brazilian Navy receives four new support vessels

The Brazilian Navy has taken delivery of four support vessels from Norwegian shipping company Deep Sea Supply.

The navy announced on April 10 that it received anchor handling tug supply vessels Sea Fox, Sea Vixen and Sea Stoat in a ceremony on April 4.

The three vessels were previously used by Brazilian oil giant Petrobras on its fields and were offered for sale by Solstad Offshore before it merged with Farstad Shipping and Deep Sea Supply into Solstad Farstad, a major offshore service vessel (OSV) company.

Following the Brazilian Navy announcement, Deep Sea Supply Shipowning on April 16 announced it sold a fourth anchor handling tug supply vessel, the AHTS Sea Badger, to the navy. According to the company, the vessel was delivered to the new owner on April 13.

All four vessels were built in 2011, displace around 2,000 tons, and have a bollard pull of approximately 90 tonnes.

According to the company, the first three vessels were sold at a price of BRL 82.8 mill (USD 24 million). The sale price for the fourth vessel was not provided.

The vessels will be used for search and rescue services and ocean towing but they could also be used for refueling of ships at sea. The commissioning date for the vessels is yet to be announced.
