USS John C Stennis underway for carrier strike training

US Navy aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) departed Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton on March 24 for another round of trials ahead of its scheduled deployment.

The carrier returned to sea after completing flight operations, damage control and seamanship training in January this year.

John C. Stennis is now underway for unit level and integrated strike group training as a part of Carrier Strike Group 3 (CSG 3).

Planned training includes flight operations, damage control and firefighting training, seamanship training, medical training, and exercises designed to maintain technical and tactical proficiency in a variety of warfare areas.

CSG 3 includes John C. Stennis as well as Carrier Air Wing Nine (CVW 9), Destroyer Squadron 21 (DESRON 21), and the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, USS Mobile Bay (CG 53).

Stennis completed a six-month availability last year, undergoing more than 2,800,000 man-hours of work between ship’s sailors, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, and contractors.
