India’s Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) delivered the second advanced offshore patrol vessel ‘SLNS Sindurala’ to the Sri Lankan Navy in a ceremony in India on March 22.
The 105-meter vessel was delivered 25 days ahead of schedule, according to the shipbuilder.
The two OPVs, built under a US$ 155 million contract, will be the largest vessels the Sri Lanka Navy has operated.
SLNS Sayural, the first of two vessels, entered service in August 2017.
The advance offshore patrol vessels are 105.7 meters long and displace 2350 tons. They have accommodation facilities for 18 officers and 100 sailors. The ships’ endurance is 4,500 nautical miles according to the Sri Lanka Navy.
The AOPVs are based on the Indian Coast Guard’s Samarth-class offshore patrol vessels.
