GD NASSCO gets USD 15.3m contract for LPD-19 refit

General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. has been awarded a USD 15.3 million firm-fixed-price contract modification to a previously announced deal for the execution of USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19) docking phased maintenance availability.  

This effort provides for repair of engine casualties as well as maintenance, the US Department of Defense said.

Work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by May 2019.

Fiscal 2018 operation and maintenance funding in the amount of USD 7.7 million will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, has awarded the contract.

USS Mesa Verde is the third San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock the first ship in the navy named in honor of the Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado. It was christened in January 2005 and commissioned in 2007.
