Russian task group enters Atlantic en route to Northern Fleet homeport

A Russian Navy task group returning from their deployment as part of the country’s permanent Mediterranean task force entered the Atlantic Ocean en route to their Northern Fleet homeport.

Ropucha-class landing ship Aleksandr Otrakovskiy, Vishnya-class intelligence ship Feodor Golovin and Altay-class oiler Yelnya transited the Strait of Gibraltar on February 19, escorted by Portuguese Navy corvette NRP António Enes.

The ships are expected to reach the English Channel soon where they are likely to be escorted by a Royal Navy Type 23 frigate on fleet ready escort duty.

The ships are expected to reach their Northern Fleet homeport of Severomorsk in the first half of March, 2018.
