The Mexican Navy’s sail training ship ARM Cuauhtémoc (BE-01) departed Acapulco – Icacos naval base on Sunday to start the 2018 training cruise.

The cruise will see the tall ship and embarked cadets visit a total of 24 ports in 13 countries.

In addition to Mexican Navy cadets, the ship will also host cadets from Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras and Italy.

During its South American tour, Cuauhtémoc will play the role of a Mexican ambassador visiting ports in Panama, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, the Netherlands Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Cuba.

The ship will spend the next nine months at sea and is scheduled to return to its homeport on October 28.

Named after the last Aztec Emperor, the Cuauhtémoc is a 270-foot (82 meter) barque built in 1982 for Mexican Navy training purposes.
