BAE Systems gets $22.7M for USS Chafee repairs

The US Navy has awarded BAE Systems Hawaii Shipyards a $22.7 million contract for scheduled selected repair availability (SRA) on Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90).

According to the US Department of Defense, the focal point of the work is to perform main engine intake and uptake compartment structural repairs and topside preservation.

Work will be performed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is expected to be completed by September 2018.

USS Chafee (DDG 90) is set to undergo the repairs after completing an independent deployment to the Western Pacific and South America. The ship started her deployment in June 2017 and returned to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on January 12, 2018.

In addition to engaging in multinational exercises with navies from Chile, Peru, Republic of Korea, and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, USS Chafee recovered more than 800kg of illicit narcotics while patrolling the waters of US 4th Fleet. The destroyer also successfully integrated into Carrier Strike Group 5 in support of the USS Ronald Reagan’s extensive patrol of the US 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
