Republic of Korea Navy receives first naval training ship

The South Korean Navy has received its first naval training ship from shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction (HHIC).

This was announced by the South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) on December 29.

Hanjin began construction of the 45-meter catamaran vessel in July 2015. The company received another contract in 2017 to construct a second boat in the class.

The multipurpose training boat (MTB) is capable of supporting anti-submarine warfare (ASW) training, anti-surface and anti-air missile drills.

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, the vessel will enter service this month after a two-week familiarization period.
