General Dynamics gets $16m contract for USS Pinckney overhaul

The US Navy has awarded General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding (NASCO) a $16.3 million contract for the maintenance and repairs of Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Pinckne (DDG 91).

Under the contract, NASCO is to perform what is referred to as a selected restricted availability which will include depot-level maintenance, alterations and modifications that will update and improve the ship’s military and technical capabilities.

Work will be performed in San Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by August 2018.

USS Pinckney is scheduled to undergo maintenance after returning from a six-month deployment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and the Arabian Gulf on December 10, 2017.

The destroyer deployed as part of the USS Nimitz carrier strike group.
