Sailor found dead on USS John C. Stennis

A sailor was found deceased on board USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) at the Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton on November 25, the US Navy informed. 

As disclosed, the man has been identified as Akiree Pointer, an engineman fireman recruit.

The navy added that an investigation into the cause of death is underway.

“John C. Stennis and the navy convey their condolences to the sailor’s family and friends in their time of loss,” the US Navy said in a statement.

Pointer’s previous commands include the Naval Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal.

John C. Stennis is currently in port preparing for future operations and its next scheduled deployment.
