BAE Systems gets $139,8m contract for USS Tortuga overhaul and modernization

The US Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair a $139.8 million firm-fixed-price contract for the repairs and modernization of Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46).

BAE Systems will be responsible for carrying out the fiscal 2018 modernization period Chief of Naval Operations availability, modernizing the ship’s hull, mechanical, electrical (HM&E), combat systems, command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C5I) systems.

The work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by May 2019. The contract also includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $183.7 million.
