HHI picks Terma C-Guard decoy launchers for Philippine Navy’s future frigates

Philippine Navy’s future frigates currently being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries will be equipped with Terma’s C-Guard decoy launchers.

The contract award was announced by the Danish company early November.

The decoys selected for the vessels will provide protection against surface and underwater threats (RF/IR/Dual Seeker missiles and torpedoes). The system uses SeaGnat or 130 mm decoy rounds.

The C-Guard also supports the firing of the latest acoustic anti-torpedo decoys, including the Naval Group-delivered Canto.

HHI is building the two frigates under a $327.0m contract signed in October 2016. The frigates are designed as a smaller version of the Incheon-class frigate which is already in service with the Republic of Korea Navy.

In addition to Terma decoys, the frigates will be featuring a Servowatch-supplied integrated platform management system (IPMS), Kelvin Hughes navigation radars and SEA’s torpedo launchers.

The first frigate is scheduled for delivery in 2020.
