Spanish Navy frigates recently took part in anti-air missile firing drills in the Gulf of Cadiz.

Santa Maria-class frigates ‘Navarra’, Canarias’ and ‘Santa María’ were joined by F-100 frigate ‘Almirante Juan de Borbón’ and a number of other ships as they fired Standard SM-1 missiles.

ESPS Almirante Juan de Borbón, OPV Vigía and auxiliary ships ‘Medas’, ‘La Graña’ and ‘P-101’ provided surveillance and support for the three frigates as they launched missiles against Spanish domestically-built Scarb target drones.

The Spanish Navy conducts the drills yearly to verify the proper functioning of all systems (fire control, launcher, programs, etc.) and the correct performance of the Standard SM-1 missile.
