Italian Navy decommissions ITS Prometeo after 40 years of service

The Italian Navy has decommissioned its deep sea tugboat ITS Prometeo after over 40 years of service.

The vessel was decommissioned on October 5 at naval base Augusta in a ceremony attended by the chief of Coastal Defence Forces (COMFORPAT).

Prometeo was the second of two Atlante-class tugboats built by Cantiere Navale Visentini for the Italian Navy in 1975 and commissioned in 1976.

The 39-meter-long vessels were used for fire intervention on other units and anti-pollution tasks in addition to supporting COMFORPAT units.
