The UK defense ministry has awarded Rolls-Royce a £3.8 million contract for the provision of spare parts for the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers.
The two 65,000-tonne carriers are the biggest warships ever to be built in Britain and are powered by two MT30 gas turbines each.
According to Rolls-Royce, the turbines that will power the Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers are the most powerful in-service gas turbines in the world.
The turbines and alternator sets are each located under one of the ships islands.
In addition to gas turbines, Rolls-Royce is supplying steering gear, propellers, shaftlines, stabilizers and the low voltage (LV) electrical power distribution system for the two aircraft carriers.
