Safehaven to build largest of Royal Navy’s new 38 workboats

Irish boat builder Safehaven Marine has been awarded a contract to build the largest vessel in a new fleet of Royal Navy workboats which are to be delivered by Atlas Elektronik (AEUK).

Safehaven Marine will supply an 18 metre Wildcat 60 catamaran, to be part of a fleet of up to 38 new workboats, ranging in size from 11 to 18 metres, being supplied to the UK Ministry of Defence by prime contractor AEUK.

Safehaven Marine were chosen by AEUK to supply the 18 meter version.

The multi-role vessels share common components and will be modular in design enabling them to support many missions ranging from diving training, through antarctic exploration to logistic re-supply

All boats have a baseline workboat configuration with twin diesels, jet drive propulsion and a modern navigation and communications fit. Fully equipped capability modules are embarked to provide rapid configuration for specific roles. The modules can be repeatedly interchanged across the whole fleet enabling cost effective re-roleing.
