HMS Queen Elizabeth entering Portsmouth on Wednesday

HMS Queen Elizabeth will be entering Portsmouth Naval Base on Wednesday, the Royal Navy has announced.

Weather consideration have prompted the Royal Navy to set the arrival of Britain’s new aircraft carrier to its homeport a bit earlier than expected.

The UK defense ministry last week announced that the carrier would be arriving to Portsmouth anytime between Thursday (17/08) and Tuesday (22/08).

The 65,000-tonne carrier, the biggest warship ever to be built in Britain, has been undergoing sea trials since setting sail from Scotland’s Rosyth dockyard in June.

She is now set to make her historic arrival into Portsmouth on Wednesday at approximately 0710 where she will be the latest in a long line of famous Royal Navy ships to call the port home.

Weather conditions meant the exact date of the historic moment could not be confirmed until today.

For those travelling to witness the historic event, the Royal Navy has created a Twitter list for travel info in Portsmouth. Additionally, the Royal Navy has established a no-fly exclusion zone for drones around Portsmouth Harbour as flying displays will take place during the event.
