UDT 2017: Rheinmetall shows off submarine training tech

German military technology company Rheinmetall is showcasing its submarine training technology at the Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) that is taking place in Bremen, Germany, between May 30 and June 1.

The Submarine Command Team Trainer (SCTT) that is being put on show allows submarine crews to practise command and operational sequences, including sensor and weapon engagement procedures.

According to Rheinmetall, the SCTT can be linked to other systems such as the company’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Simulator, the ASWS. It can also be networked with other larger training systems in order to conduct more complex, realistic major naval warfare exercises.

Rheinmetall, in cooperation with thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, is also presenting interoperable capabilities for virtual naval training. For example, a station of Rheinmetall’s basic Submarine Control Simulator is networked to the Virtual Ship Training and Information System (ViSTIS) at the neighbouring stand of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. This enables operational training sessions in a virtual submarine to be linked with the high fidelity simulation and its related processes replicated in the Submarine Control Simulator.
