Canadian Navy frigate docks in Mumbai

Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Winnipeg arrived in Mumbai, India, for a five-day visit on May 13.

Her Majesty’s Canadian (HMC) ships Winnipeg and Ottawa are in the Indo -Pacific region for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Poseidon Cutlass 17 deployment. Poseidon Cutlass 17 includes exercises with regional partner navies at sea, as well as in key events and engagements in ports across the region.

It is during this deployment that the HMCS Winnipeg is on a port of call and goodwill visit to Mumbai. This visit by HMCS Winnipeg follows the recent visit to India of the Canadian Minister of National Defence Harjit Singh Sajjan.

HMCS Winnipeg is a Halifax-class frigate that has served in the Royal Canadian Navy since 1996. Winnipeg is the ninth ship of her class, whose design emerged from the Canadian Patrol Frigate Project. She is the second Canadian warship to carry the name HMCS Winnipeg.
