US Navy cruiser collides with South Korean fishing vessel

U.S. Navy’ guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) collided with a South Korean fishing vessel in international waters off South Korea on May 9.

According to the U.S. Navy, the Ticonderoga-class cruiser was conducting routine operations at approximately 11:50 a.m. (+9I) when the incident happened.

No one was injured in the incident and both vessels were able to sail on their own power, the navy added without providing additional info on the cause of collision.

The incident is under investigation by both U.S. Navy and South Korea Coast Guard while damage assessments of both the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser and the 60-70 ft. long fishing vessel are underway.

USS Lake Champlain is part of the Carl Vinson Strike Group which is currently on a Western-Pacific Deployment.
