Indian warships visit Alexandria, Egypt

Two Indian warships on an overseas deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and the West Coast of Africa stopped in Alexandria, Egypt, for a three-day port call.

Delhi-class guided-missile destroyer INS Mumbai and replenishment ship INS Aditya entered Alexandria on May 5.

The warships will engage in both professional and sports and social activities with the Egyptian Navy during their stay in harbour.

The ships are on the return leg of their deployment having visited France for the bilateral naval drill Varuna which was hosted by France this year.

In addition to port visits, the ships also helped prevent a hijacking attempt in the Gulf of Aden late on April 8.
