US Navy helicopter crew safe after crash near Guam

A U.S. Navy helicopter embarked on Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Dewey crashed in waters near Guam on Thursday, the U.S. Navy said.

The entire crew of the MH-60R helicopter, including two pilots and one aircrewman, were safely recovered by USS Dewey (DDG 105) and suffered no apparent injuries.

The navy said the incident occurred as the MH-60R helicopter assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 78 was conducting routine flight operations. The incident is currently under investigation.

Dewey and embarked HSM 78, along with USS Sterett (DDG 104) and embarked HSM 49, are currently deployed as a part of the Sterett-Dewey Surface Action Group (SAG) and departed San Diego for the Western Pacific March 31.

The helicopter crash comes less than after a Super Hornet crashed while attempting to land on aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson during routine flight operations. The pilot from this incident ejected and was safely recovered.
