US destroyer, European warships arrive in Scotland ahead of Joint Warrior

U.S. Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64), along with a number of other European warships, arrived at Her Majesty’s Naval Base, Clyde in Faslane, Scotland, on March 22 to attend pre-sail conferences leading up to exercise Joint Warrior (JW) 2017.

Hosted by the Royal Navy, Joint Warrior 17-1 is an exercise designed to improve interoperability between Allied and partner navies to prepare participants for operations in a joint maritime environment during deployments.

This year’s edition of the exercise will, for the first time, feature Information Warrior, a drill aimed at demonstrating and developing information warfare.

The Royal Navy says this will be the first time the Royal Navy has used cyber operations and artificial intelligence in an exercise of this scale.

Other ships that arrived in Scotland yesterday include Norwegian frigate HNoMS Roald Amundsen, Belgian frigate BNS Louise Marie, Dutch frigate HNLMS Tromp, German Navy ships Donau and Siegsberg, and Estonian minehunter EML Wambola.
