German Navy’s combat support ship EGV Frankfurt am Main damaged its stern while entering the Wilhelmshaven navy base late in the evening on March 16, the German Navy informed.

While the the extent of damages is yet to be evaluated, the navy said it has called off participation in the NATO-led drill Joint Warrior.

No persons were injured in the accident.

The combat support ship was returning from training activities and was supposed to reverse into a sea lock at the naval station. During the maneuver, the stern of Frankfurt am Main made contact with the lock.

The navy said the ship would not be able to take part in NATO’s Joint Warrior exercises, adding that other German ships, combat support ship Bonn, tender Donau, and minesweeper Siegsburg would be taking part in the exercise as scheduled.

Joint Warrior is a biannual joint task force exercise that encompasses anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, mine counter measures, intelligence gathering, GPS jamming and electronic warfare training. Joint Warrior is hosted by the United Kingdom and Royal Navy.
