Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s six new coastal patrol vessels, to be built by Destini Shipbuilding, will be featuring Kelvin Hughes radars.
According to Kelvin Hughes, the vessels will be equipped with a widescreen navigation radar display along with the new type-approved 12kW X-Band radar and an S-Band SharpEye™ radar.
Equipment for the first two ships was delivered earlier this year and it is anticipated that they will be commissioned during the first half of 2017 with the remaining systems being delivered during the second half.
The 44.25 meter vessels are being built under a design license agreement with German shipbuilder Fassmer. The vessels will be engaged in search and rescue, firefighting, fishery protection, law enforcement, disaster relief, training, pollution control and EEZ (Economic Exclusion Zone) duties.
Kelvin Hughes’ earlier equipment deliveries to Malaysia include the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Second Generation Patrol Vessel (SGPV) programme. The company supplied a pair of type-approved, upmast I-Band (X-Band) and E/F-Band (S-Band) SharpEye™ Doppler radars for each new ship in the class.
Kelvin Hughes has also recently supplied Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) for MMEA’s Fast Interceptor Boats.
