Russian ASW destroyer heads out to sea for exercises

Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet anti-submarine warfare destroyer ‘Admiral Tributs’ set sail to carry out training at sea, the Russian ministry of defense announced.

The ship’s crew will carry out artillery firing at coast, air, and sea targets. They will also practice jamming countermeasures, ship damage controlling, and countering sabotage groups.

Admiral Tributs will also cooperate with Ka-27 and Ka-27PS crews to hone the skills of searching, detecting and eliminating enemy submarines.

Admiral Tributs is one of nine Udaloy-class (Project 1155) ships that were commissioned between 1988 and 1999.

Recent media reports say the Russian Navy plans to modernize five Udaloy-class anti-submarine warfare destroyers by 2022.

Russian defense ministry spokesman Igor Dygalo said in January that ships from the Northern and Pacific Fleets would undergo modernization of life support systems and radio-electronic weapons systems at shipyards in the north and far east regions of the country.
