CFM to deliver jet engine parts to US Navy, Air Force under $2 billion deal

CFM International, a joint venture of GE Aviation and Safran Aircraft Engines, has received a $1.97 billion contract for F108 replenishment spare parts.

Spares will be delivered to the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency as the contractor and used by both the U.S. Navy and Air Force.

CFM’s F108 engine allows the services to restore exhaust gas temperature margins, increasing fuel economy and extending the time between overhauls from 10 to 15 years.

CFM56 engines are used on the Navy’s E-6B Mercury command and control aircraft and the Air Force’s C-135 series tankers and reconnaissance aircraft. The E-6B is managed by the E-6B Airborne Strategic Command, Control & Communications Program Office.

Work on the contract will be performed in Ohio, US, and France. This nine-month base contract with a four-year and a three-year option period is expected to be completed by October 2024.
