Ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet completed their visit to Japan on January 23 where they took part in maneuvering and search and rescue exercises in the Sea of Japan.
Two Russian ships, ASW destroyer Admiral Tributs and fleet tanker Boris Butoma arrived at Japanese port of Maizuru on January 21.
Japanese and Russian ships held the SAREX exercise in the Wakasa Bay in the Sea of Japan. The exercise also saw the participation of Japan’s helicopter-carrier ship JMSDF Hyuga.
According to a Russian ministry of defense statement the exercise was rated as successful despite complicated weather conditions.
Earlier in December 2016, these two Pacific Fleet ships were on a visit to Visakhapatnam, India, where they took part in the ninth edition of the bilateral naval exercise between Russia and India called Indra.
