SNMCMG1 ships make a port call in Germany

Two ships deployed to NATO standing mine counter measure group one (SNMCMG1) docked at the German naval base Warnemünde on January 11.

Royal Navy’s Sandown-class minehunter HMS Ramsey and Estonian ENS Admiral Cowan will spend 7 days at the port and sail out into the Baltic Sea on January 18

They will thereafter join the rest of the group and sail north to spend six months developing mine hunting techniques and interoperability.

The group currently consists of units from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

Germany currently has no groups deployed to SNMCMG1 but that will change in July this year when the Frankenthal-class vessel Sulzbach-Rosenberg is scheduled to join.
