BAE lands $75M contract for USS San Antonio maintenance, modernization work

The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair a $75.1 million contract for USS San Antonio (LPD 17) fiscal 2017 docking phased maintenance availability (DMPA).

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, this availability will include a combination of maintenance, modernization, and repair of USS San Antonio.

This long-term availability was completed on coast-wide (East and Gulf) basis without limiting the place of performance to the vessel’s homeport.

BAE will provide the facilities and human resources capable of completing, coordinating, and integrating multiple areas of ship maintenance, repair, and modernization.

Work on the the contract is expected to be completed by April 2018 and includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $79,407,461.

USS San Antonio is the lead ship in a class of 12 ships that is designed to replace over 41 ships from the following: LPD 4 Austin-class, LSD 36 Anchorage-class, LKA 113 Charleston-class and LST 1179 Newport-class amphibious ships.

Construction on USS San Antonio (LPD 17) started in June 2000 and the ship was delivered to the Navy in July 2005. LPDs 18-26 have been delivered to the Navy while the future USS Portland (LPD 27) is expected to be delivered in 2017.
