Indian shipbuilder Goa Shipyard Limited launched the second offshore patrol vessel for Sri Lanka at its shipyard on December 15.

The 105-meter advance offshore patrol vessel (AOPV) was unslipped during a ceremony attended by High Commissioner of Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka and a number Sri Lanka Navy officials.

The first vessel, launched by GSL earlier this year, is expected to be delivered in August 2017. The second and final ship in the order is set to be delivered in 2018.

Sri Lankan vessels are based on the Indian Coast Guard’s Samarth-class offshore patrol vessels. Three vessels in the class are already in service with the Indian Coast Guard while GSL recently held a launching ceremony for the sixth unit.
