Royal Australian Navy’s Collins-class HMAS Dechaineux made a port visit in Hobart, Australia for a few days recently.
Breaking up their long transit to New Zealand, Dechaineux sailed north to Jervis Bay to spend a day at anchor conducting maintenance.
It also enabled some of the ship’s company a chance to go ashore at HMAS Creswell where two watches battled it out in a game of continuous cricket on Hyams Beach.
Durinf the port visit, two members of the crew sailed into their homeport for the very first time in their Navy career.
Seaman electronic warfare submariner Thomas Gould was promoted to Able Seaman by the Commanding Officer Dechaineux, Commander Robin Dainty in front of his parents while the submarine was berthed at Princes Wharf.
“I have such a great time in the Navy, and being at sea onboard Dechaineux. I loved having my parents see me get promoted in my home town,” able seaman Gould said.
