The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded Raytheon $25.4 million under a contract modification to exercise an option for the DDG 1002 Zumwalt-class destroyer mission system equipment MK 57 vertical launch system.
Named after U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, DDG 1002 is the second of overall three Zumwalt-class destroyers in the U.S. Navy.
The lead ship in the class, USS Zumwalt, was already commissioned while construction on the other two ships is still underway.
The 80-cell, MK 57 vertical launch system that the ships are fitted out with is designed to fire all missile types in the U.S. Navy inventory and projected to be in inventory for the foreseeable future.
Raytheon will perform the work in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is expected to complete it by December 2019.
