USS Carney enters Black Sea

U.S. Navy’s guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) entered the Black Sea, October 24, to conduct maritime security operations in the region.

Carney entered the Black Sea to demonstrate the U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO allies and partners in Europe as part of the U.S. operation Atlantic Resolve.

“It’s great to be back in the Black Sea. It’s been 20 years since my last visit to the Black Sea and I’m looking forward to strengthening relations and interoperability with our friends and allies in the area, and promoting maritime security and stability in the region,” said Cmdr. Ken Pickard, commanding officer, USS Carney (DDG 64).

“This is Carney’s first visit since being forward deployed in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations, and we hope to build lasting relationships.”

USS Carney is the 14th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and one of the forward-deployed destroyers stationed in Rota, Spain.
