The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded General Dynamics’ division NASSCO-Norfolk a $21 million contract to carry out extended dry-docking selected restricted availability on USS Gonzalez (DDG 66).

This availability will include a combination of maintenance, modernization, and repair of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. This is a “long-term” availability and was competed on a coast-wide (East and Gulf) basis without limiting the place of performance to the vessel’s homeport.

Under the contract, NASSCO will provide the facilities and human resources capable of completing, coordinating, and integrating multiple areas of ship maintenance, repair, and modernization for USS Gonzalez.

The contract also has options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $48.2 million. Work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by September 2017.
