FGS Datteln pulls 273 migrants from rubber boats off Tripoli

German Navy’s mine hunting ship FGS Datteln saved 273 migrants and recovered one dead from rubber boats off the coast of Libya on September 5.

The ship found the migrants some 80 kilometers north-west of Tripoli on Monday morning travelling on three boats.

After consulting the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Rome, Datteln was tasked with rescuing migrants from two rubber boats while Italian patrol ship Comandante Borsini rescued migrants from the third boat.

Migrants saved by FGS Datteln were later transferred to other ships for the transport to Italy. Datteln had a total of 273 persons, 47 women and 62 children, aboard during this rescue operation.
