International maritime force commanders meet off Somali coast

Whilst on counter-piracy patrol off the coast of Somalia recently, operation Atalanta’s Force Commander hosted the Commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, Rear Admiral Nam of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy.

The ROK Admiral was welcomed aboard Operation Atalanta’s Dutch flagship, HNLMS Tromp, by Commodore Luyckx. The commanders discussed the opportunities for increased collaboration between their two task forces.

Commodore Luyckx was pleased with the outcome of the visit: “Today our task forces shared thoughts of how integrated collaboration can be achieved in the near future. We had the chance to make plans and both expressed the importance of intensive cooperation in order to achieve maritime security in the region.”

EU Naval Force works with counter-piracy partners in the area of operations off the Somali coast to ensure waters and seafarers are kept safe from piracy. Collaborating with other task forces is vital to ensure all assets are used effectively and the threat of piracy is kept at bay.
