The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics NASSCO a $42 million cost-plus-award-fee modification to a previously awarded contract for the repair and alteration for the USS Oak Hill (LSD-51).

Under the contract, the shipbuilder is to provide ship repair services including engine replacement/repairs, ballast tank preservation, habitability upgrades and close-in weapons system repairs.

Work on the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship will be performed in Norfolk and is expected to be completed by April 2017.

The Norfolk, Virginia-homeported USS Oak Hill recently completed a multi-month deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet as part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group.

Oak Hill was commissioned into the Navy in June 1996 and is the second U.S. Navy ship to bear the nam.
