Dutch Coast Guard patrol vessel Barend Biesheuvel recently docked at Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSHl) for her third special survey.
The major task carried out during the docking was a full dismantling, inspection and overhaul of the propulsion system, from the propellers, shafts and gearboxes to the rudders, steering gear and tunnel thruster.
In addition, the coolers were dismantled for cleaning and maintenance before being returned to the ship and the tanks were cleaned and inspected.
The vessel’s cranes were inspected and load tested, the ventilation systems in the accommodation area were cleaned and compressors checked and the vessel’s electrical systems were inspected including a modification of the electrical shore power connection.
Other tasks included hydrojetting and re-painting the vessel’s underwater hull area plus cleaning and repainting of the topsides and superstructure.
This was the second time ‘Barend Biesheuvel’ has visited Damen Shiprepair Harlingen, having docked at the yard last year for cleaning of her hull and renewal of propeller shaft seals.
This recent docking was a collaboration between Damen Shiprepair Harlingen and Damen Shipyards Den Helder who have a maintenance contract with the client.
Barend Biesheuvel is used by the Dutch Coastguard as a fishery patrol vessel. It has a gross tonnage of 1,150 tons, a length of 62 metres and a beam of 11 metres.
