Gas leakage kills two on Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya

Gas leakage on the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya killed two people, including one sailor, on June 10 at Karwar in Karnataka where the ship is undergoing overhauls.

Two more persons were injured during the incident in which the workers inhaled toxic fumes while repairing the ship’s sewage treatment plant (STP) compartment.

The Indian Navy said that Rakesh Kumar, shipwright artificer class 4, and Shri Mohandas Kolambkar, an employee of M/s Royal Marine, succumbed to gas inhalation.

The condition of the other two personnel is stable. Action has been taken to render the compartment and area on the ship safe and an inquiry into the incident was ordered, the Navy said.
